Over Muhammad Ali, David LaChapelle, Pele, Africa. Hieronder vind je informatie over boeken en mensen die wij interessant vinden. Het is niet perse de actuele collectie. Die wisselt namelijk dagelijks.

Het nieuwe jaar begint boektechnisch gezien goed: Marc Lagrange's XXML is namelijk geleverd bij MENDO. De Belgische fotograaf heeft het mooiste werk van de afgelopen jaar gebundeld in een gelimiteerd en gesigneerd boek: XXML. Het boek, waarvan er 500 zijn ontwikkeld en dat € 1.500,00 kost, is inmiddels uitverkocht. Alle gelukkigen die een exemplaar bij MENDO hebben besteld zijn op de hoogte gebracht. Goed om te weten: er is eveneens een versie van € 50,00 te verkrijgen.

From a book perspective, 2012 has started off perfectly as Marc Lagrange's XXML has been delivered here at MENDO. The Belgian photographer has bundled his best work from the last 20 years in a limited and signed book: XXML. The book of which 500 copies were made, costs € 1.500,00 and is already sold out. People who were able to order a copy at MENDO are informed. Good to know: there is also a € 50,00 version.

Voormalig Playboy-art director Patrick van Dam laat een droom in duigen vallen. Playboy fotoshoots zijn niet zo betoverend als we graag willen denken. Geen caviar en champagne, maar broodjes kaas en Spa Rood. Behind The Scenes is een selectie uit de snapshots die Patrick 7 jaar lang maakte. Un-glamouring Playboy, op buitengewoon charmante wijze. Als kers op de taart werd Patrick uitgenodigd om het eerste exemplaar op The Mansion te overhandigen aan Mr. Hefner.

Patrick van Dam, former art director at Playboy in The Netherlands has ripped apart another dream. Playboy photoshoots are not as glamorous as we wish they would be. No caviar and champagne, but cheese sandwiches and Evian. Behind The Scenes is a selection of photos from Patricks personal scrapbook. Un-glamouring Playboy, but in the most charming way. Icing on the cake: Patrick was invited at The Mansion to present the first copy to Mr Hefner.

De eerste drukgang van Erwin Olaf's nieuwe oeuvre-overzicht is afgekeurd. De kwaliteit van het drukwerk voldeed niet aan de eisen die Olaf en de uitgever eraan stelden. Liefhebbers van Olaf zullen dus nog even geduld moeten hebben. Naar verwachting wordt het boek in maart 2012 gepubliceerd. De Limited Edition wordt wel geleverd.
 
The first printing edition of Erwin Olaf's new overview was disapproved. The quality of the printing did not meet the demands of Olaf and the publisher. Fans of Erwin Olaf will have to wait a little while. The book is now expected to be publised in March 2012. The Limited Edition, however, is of immaculate quality and will be delivered soon.

De reguliere editie van Marc Lagrange is uit. Omdat de cover van het boek en deze week voor Sinterklaas zo mooi samenvallen, geeft MENDO vijf exemplaren weg aan mensen die hun virtuele of echte schoen bij MENDO plaatsen. Wil je kans maken? In de kast van MENDO vind je tegenwoordig steeds vaker boeken over 3D type. Een fenomeen van deze tijd? Niet helemaal... Al in 1969 ontwikkelde Anthon Beeke het blotemeisjesalfabet. Dat prachtige idee is nu gerecycled in kleur en aangevuld met Nude Numbers. Body Type bestaat uit een luxe cassette en bevat drie onderdelen: de letters van toen en de cijfers van nu op afzonderlijke kaarten, de geschiedenis en losse letters waarmee je zelf woorden en zinnen kunt vormen.
 
Nowadays on MENDO's shelves you find numerous books about 3D type. This appears to be a phenomena of our days. But it's not. In 1969 Anthon Beeke developed the nude girls alphabet. This beautiful idea has been recycled in full color. And Nude Numbers have been added. Body Type of an opulent cassette and is made up of three parts: the letters from 1969 and the new numerals printed on cards, a booklet with the history and a notepad with printed letters you can tear out  to bring this alphabet to life.

Natuurlijk, 'onze' Newton heeft geen baanbrekend werk verricht op het gebied van kwantummechanica, traagheid of actie en reactie. Maar de fotografie is door Helmut Newton wel voor altijd veranderd. Misschien is hij wel de grondlegger van de fotografie zoals we die vandaag kennen. En dan ben je voor MENDO een echte Favorite.

Granted, "our" Newton didn't publish any groundbreaking work on quantum physics, constant velocity or action and reaction. But Helmut Newton did change the face of photograpy. Perhaps he even laid the foundations for photography as we know it today. To MENDO, that makes you a Favorite.

Bij MENDO vind je talloze interieur-inspiratieboeken. Zoals The Selby is in your place - een fantastisch inspiratieboek. Todd Selby fotografeert, portretteert en illustreert de interieurs van creatieve individuen. Dat boek is zo'n hit dat het regelmatig uitverkocht is. Dus als we 'm hebben liggen... meepakken! Al was het maar om de boekenkast van Karl Lagerfeld te zien.

MENDO is the place for books full of interior inspiration. The Selby is in your place is a wonderfully inspirational book. Todd Selby photographs and illustrates the interiors of creative individuals' homes. His book is such a hit that it's regularly sold out. So if you see it on our shelves... grab your chance! If only to see Karl Lagerfeld's bookcase.

"Een favoriet boek uitzoeken is eigenlijk onmogelijk. Maar ik neig naar Hemut Newton's Sumo. De vormgeving, het formaat en de standaard van Philippe Starck maakten zo'n indruk op mij dat ik het ondanks de hoge prijs wilde hebben. Het boek markeert het begin van mijn verzameling en blijkt bovnedien een goede investering. Alhoewel, verkopen zal ik het boek nooit."

Its design, size and the Philippe Starck stand made such an impression on me that I simply had to have it despite its cost. Hier kan je het kort of lang over hebben, maar bottomline is: dit is een verdraaid sexy boek. Prachtig land, waanzinnig mooie mensen en dé fotograaf om daar een spetterend boek van te maken. Verkrijgbaar in rood, geel en oranje.

Okay, het is een beetje blasé, maar we zijn er nu eenmaal trots op. Dankzij het prachtige ontwerp van de winkel door Concrete Architectural Associates krijgt MENDO nogal wat publiciteit. Zoals in deze prachtige publicatie van Frame, met daarin 200 uizonderlijk ontworpen winkels... zoals MENDO!

Okay, it may be a bit tacky, but hey, we're proud. Thanks to Concrete Architectural Associates’ superb design of the store, MENDO is getting quite a lot of exposure. Like this very fine publication by Frame featuring '200 outstandingly designed stores'... like MENDO!

The number of fashion blogs is growing every day. Makes sense, since the internet is perfectly suitable for this fast industry. Never the less we like the fact that these blogs eventually are published in old-fashioned books.

Zijn onverwachte overlijden maakt dat het boek de geschiedenis in gaat als het definitieve eerbetoon aan de King of Pop.
